Lawn Mower Racing

The 2011 STA-BIL Lawn & Garden Mower Racing Series rolled into Etowah (Englewood), Tennessee on Saturday, June 11 for 2-Race Double Header event on the home track of the East Tennessee Lawn Mower Racing Association (ETLMRA).

With the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association (USLMRA) national points races heating up heading into the late Spring racing season, racers were eager to compete in two races on the dirt in Englewood.

Rodney Peeler, ETLMRA President and National Chief Steward along with his wife Bobbie and daughter Mariah greeted racers on Friday who traveled from states including Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio and of course the Volunteer State. Racers were not disappointed in the track, as the smooth clay and dirt held up well on the grounds of the Englewood Lions Club.

Race Number One saw John Michael “Shorty” Bell grab the checkers in the JP Class while Pat Sullivan (IMOW), Wally Bender (AP), Jason Brown (SP), Rick Eichenberger (CP), Jayson Mikula (BP) and Manny Torres (FX) were victories in their classes.

The BP Class race was a highlight of the day, the Jayson Mikula, Ron Rollman, Chuck Miller, Jim Mikula, Mike Bell and Tom Flynn finishing 1-6 in a nail-biter that saw the mowers 4-wide into turn 3 on several occasions.

In Race Number 2, Shorty Bell (JP) and Pat Sullivan (IMOW) grabbed checkers for the 2nd time of the day with Pat Sullivan also victorious in AP and Wally Bender (SP), Michael Paccione (CP), Chuck Miller (BP) and Christopher Cox (FX) enjoying a checkered flag victory lap on the .092-mile course.

Special recognition goes to Wally Bender of the DelMarVa Lawn Mower Racing Association for running four classes in Englewood: IMOW, AP, SP and FX and to Alan “Wormburner” Elder, Travis Peeler, Dylan Eichenberger and Paul “Bubba” of SSS Entertainment for receiving Spirit and Spark Awards along with Barry “B-Man” Sullivan who kept the crowd musically mowtivated throughout the day.

The STA-BIL Volunteer Summer Nationals will be held Saturday, August 20 at the Englewood, TN track!
