Kerry Evans, Vice President of the United States Lawn Mower Racing Association is confident that 2015 will be the sport’s best year yet.

Kerry on the Coast“We are bringing more to the table,” Evans said. “We are doing more STA-BIL National Series events this year than we have in quite a while including including several new locations. This year’s schedule also includes the Weekend Mow Down Show Down at the Vestaburg Kart Speedway in Michigan to celebrate the marriage of racers Alex Stella and Ivy Coy, who will be getting married at the track! There’s a little something for everyone this year!

As the person who manages the association’s membership, Evans has witnessed the increasing numbers and popularity of the USLMRA. “The sport will take a big jump,” Evans predicted. “We are seeing more spectators and general interest. Faster classes and newer machines bring huge excitement to the races and hopefully we will keep seeing new faces at the track. Overall, lawn mower racing is a sport that keeps its racers and spectators on their toes. People are learning more about engines every day. There are better parts being made and people are taking pride in their machines. Often, people underestimate the true power that lawn mowers can put out and don’t really think about their potential outside of how well they cut grass. Most people don’t realize that lawn mowers can reach top speeds.”

Evans himself was present when the world land speed record for a racing lawn mower was broken by Bobby Cleveland at 96.529 mph.

Evans hopes that in ten years, lawn mower racing will be on-par with high-level auto sports like NASCAR. He’d like to see lawn mower racing in every town and believes that there are plenty of opportunities to reach that goal. “New people are gaining interest,” Evans added. “There are still plenty of gearheads out there that have never heard of racing lawnmowers. With ever-evolving technology and potential to reach massive audiences, lawn mower racing is a sport that can only grow. And 2015 will be a testament to that.!”

“You’ll enjoy every moment of what we’ve got in store for this year,” Evans said. “Lawn mower racing is the fastest growing motorsport out there for a reason – there’s always something exciting happening!”
