The Central Iowa Lawn Mower Racing Association (CILMRA) will host a race Sunday, October 23, 2:00pm at the River Bottom Raceway, 95 Hwy 5, Carlisle, IA on the East edge of Carlisle on Highway 5. Spectator admission is only $5 each with concessions on site, coolers welcome. Pit Passes $10, no coolers allowed in pits. Spectators are welcome in the pits following the racing activities. Race day festivities will include lawn mower racing in seven different classes and an official announcement of a 2012 STA-BIL Lawn & Garden Series National Points Race sanctioned by the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association!

“As a USLMRA Local Chapter, we will take great pride in hosting the STA-BIL U.S. Heartland Open at River Bottom Raceway on July 28-29, 2012,” said Curt Hodges, CILMRA President. “This is a big deal for the CILMRA. The 2012 National Points Race Weekend will feature more than 80 custom racing mowers and drivers from all over the US and Canada. Our Iowa chapter is really excited to host this major event in Carlisle next July and we’ve already started making arrangements with the city to celebrate with festivities for the entire family. We’re still working on the details, but there will likely be a street dance after the race on July 28, with other activities held throughout the weekend. We are kicking grass here in Central Iowa!”

“The October 23 Carlisle festivities will also be celebrated with some great family-oriented activities,” said Doug Baber, Track Promoter of River Bottom Raceway. “In addition to competitive, high-speed lawnmower racing, there will be a hot air balloon onsite, from which a lucky raffle winner will be given a high-flying ride. We’re anticipating a good turnout and I think people are going to be excited when they learn that a STA-BIL National Points Race Weekend will be held in Carlisle. Everyone I speak with always tells me they have a good time at these races. It’s truly a fun experience for the whole family.”

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary in 2012, the USLMRA is the nations’ oldest and largest national lawn mower racing sanctioning body, presenting organized events across America including the 21-race STA-BIL Series, and a network of over 60 Local Chapters & Affiliated Clubs hosting hundreds of sanctioned races in over 40 states nationwide. Racers compete for trophies, glory and bragging rights with all cutting blades removed. There is no purse money.

USLMRA races take place at fairs, festivals, car shows, charity or non-profit events (Kiwanis, Lions), city-supported tracks and commercial venues. We also race at dedicated lawn mower racing tracks, in grassy fields and even in your backyard. The USLMRA has been featured on national television shows, including the Travel Channel’s, “Truck Stop Missouri.” Currently, filming is underway for a segment of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover Home Edition,” in which the USLMRA (Iowa chapter) will be featured.
