The 10th Annual STA-BIL Great Lakes Summer Nationals Race for Huntington’s Disease Research, Saturday-Sunday, July 21-22, 2012 has been named “The Jim Keech Memorial Race for Huntington’s Disease” to honor one of the U.S. Lawn Mower Racing Association’s most beloved competitors.

The Mikula-Keech Family and the Michigan Lawn Mower Racing Association look forward to hosting racers and friends from across the country to this Crown Jewel of the STA-BIL Lawn & Garden Mower Racing Series.

We are proud to announce that over the past nine years, this event as raised more than $100,000 for Huntington’s Disease Research.

A special free screening of Mike Ratel’s documentary film “On Your Mark, Get Set, Mow: A Tale of Hope, Redemption and Lawn Mower Racing” will be part of the weekend events. The film explores the world of lawn mower racing through the eyes of the Mikula family who has lost six members to Huntington’s disease and the annual Sparta Race to raise funds for research.

We will again award “Weekend Champion” trophies in all classes, counting heats and features from both days. Racers will pay a $20.00 fee, which covers insurance, pit access, rental of one transponder and computer timing & scoring. Additional transponder rentals are $5.00. ALL other persons, including pit crew and minors must pay $5.00 for Pit Access.

Huntington’s Disease Research Raffle

Once again a very special raffle will take place for Huntington’s Disease Research. A brand new John Deere racing mower built Jayson Mikula will be raffled off during the weekend. Charlie Bowen donated the engine this year. The rest of the parts where supplied by Four Seasons and Jim and Jayson Mikula. Doc Kuhfeldt’s idea for the HD Mower Raffle lives on, and the contest gains new MOWmentum every year!

  • 1st Prize: JP/IMOW Class racing mower built by Jayson and Jim Mikula
  • 2nd Prize: Battery operated John Deere riding toy tractor

Donation: $2.00 per ticket or three (3) for $5.00. Drawing will be held Sunday, July 22, 2012. Winners do not need to be present to win, and delivery of the mower will be worked out with the winner. If the winner does not want the racing mower, a new John Deere D100 riding mower, or $1500 cash can be substituted. 100% of the proceeds go to Huntington’s disease research.
