The 12th annual St. Mary’s County National Lawn Mower Races at Bowles Farms in Clements, Maryland on August 5-6 was a grand success, featuring 75 racers from 11 states, 4,000 spectators over the two nights of racing and major dollars raised for the St. Mary’s County 7th District Rescue Squad and Optimist Club.

Featuring a special visit by British Lawn Mower Racing Association officials Jim Gavin and Pete Hammerton and spectacular side-by-side lawn mower racing, the Bowles Farms Weekend was a highlight of the 2016 STA-BIL National Lawn Mower Racing Series.

Alabama, Illinois, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and West Sussex, Great Britain were all represented.

As always, the St. Mary’s County Organizing Committee and the Bowles family welcomed us with open arms, fresh dirt, high corn and food. Each year, the venue improves in various ways and the tradition held true this year, with new grandstands, a great track surface and a Thursday night sponsor Meet & Greet event featuring STA-BIL Series racers.

Jim and Pete were honored during special ceremonies marking their visit, and gave a wonderful presentation to our racers on Saturday. Thanks, Jim and Pete!

A little rain didn’t dampen our mowtivatioon, as the spectators hung in there while Tommy, Ricky and their team gave us a perfect track.

Next year, 2017 is “Lucky 13” in St. Mary’s County and the USLMRA’s 25th Anniversary. We’ve got some special surprises on tap!

Thank you St. Mary’s County!
